Since the Op is edited this is my response.
I would use a big psu 1000 watt or more, defiantly modular if possible. Check the nvidia site for recommended psu's for the build.
Next since you want to run 2 280 gtx gpu's I would suggest the asus 6pt mobo as it is designed to run 2 cards and has some nice features and extras.
the rest of the parts:
Get low voltage ram 1.5-1.65 at max with micron chips
I still say 2 velociraptor 150 gb in raid 0 owns all others.
sound card I am hearing good things about the asus sonars
If you still have money to spend after all this a blu ray/dvd burner
Now lets get "chicky" with it.
case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811156213
add red leds to this case would scream "I'm a chick and I'll gut you". (you will want to replace that blue led fan with a red 1)
adding in UV cold cathodes and uv red materials(fans, fan grills, cables, cable sleeves ect ect) would be even better.
Maybe get the window etched with something you really like.

ok, so everyone throw a tomato at me, but at the Core i7 website is says:
Quote:
Main features of the core i7 965 Extreme Edition
Name: Core i7 965 Extreme Edition
Lithography Process: 45 nm
Cores: 4
Threads: 8
Frequency: 3.2 GHz
Price: $999
Cache: 256 KB L2/core and 8 MB shared L3
Memory Controller: Triple channel DDR3 800/1066/1333 MHz
Bus Interface: 1x 6.4 GT/s QuickPath
TDP: 130W
Socket: LGA1366
|
Does this indicate that buying DDR3 - 1600 would be a waste of money as the MC doesn't support more than 1333?
Also, I read somewhere... sorry, some tech blog, that Core i7 is not going to be very SLI friendly.
I am not a tech guru... can anyone elaborate on either of these comments?

well if the mc only supports 1333 then thats all it supports. but that may change. The big thing is the volts from what i read its not supposed to go over 1.65.
the i7 motherboards support both crossfire and sli so you do not need to get a special mobo as far as i know to mate a vid card with.

Intel stated the memory controller of the Nehalem has no limit on voltage and can handle above 1,65v (limit that you can set, not limit that it can handle so you can still blow it sky high if you put 100 volt on it) And there are motherboards with a memory controller of their own.
Besides, how else do you think they managed to overclock the thing to 4GHz?

The memory controller only officially supports DDR3 800 and 1066, but that's irrelevent. You can happily run DDR3 1600Mhz, just Intel offically conisders this "overclocking". A 1600Mhz 8-8-8-24 1.65volt kit is probably your best option. I know the Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D run at these specifications.
A note on the 1.65V "limit": some tech sites/forummers have alluded to this being possible to overcome. E.g: Andandtech has suggested a cobination of tweaked settings is all that's needed and Fudzilla has often referred to boards with a split Vcore/Vmem.
I'm not too sure if you plan on overclocking and what games you need to play? I would recommend changing the Core i7 965 to Core i7 920 if you don't plan on overclocking much. Just a personal opinion: if you don't have/know what a cascade is, there is no point having a 965. Judging my the fact that your want a big fan with blue LEDs, there is really not much point getting the Core i7 965. Just so you know: the best air cooler is the Thermalright 120 Extreme (Black or soon fully Copper editions) heatsink with one or two Scythe fans.
Additionally you could switch the two GTX280s to a 4870X2 or GTX260 216SPs to save some cash. If you choose to get a 4870X2, a Corsair 750 watt would be the way to go. What monitor do you have currently?
With the cash saved on the processor and video cards you could get a Intel X25-M SSD (provided they are available around the time your building).
Upon release it will be easier to reccommend specific motherboards, RAM etc.

ok the reason I posted and have been trying to make to make people aware is this:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10060372-1.html
....and this is just 1 of many sites. This has nothing, or little, to do with the memory controller it self. The way I understand it is the cpu and the ram are on the same voltage circuit on the mobo.
As these are leaks/ early reveiws/ early announcements it is subject to change with different mobo releases and revisions. This is the exact reason I will not be building my i7 at time of release it will be 1 expensive and 2 you are a live tester so be prepared for massive headaches.
BTW overclocking does not necessarily mean cranking up the volts, this has been the trend to "stabilize" the OC. In my current build, My ram is underclocked a little and the cpu is overclocked linked and synced (I increased the clock cycle on the chip). It is this linked and synced that they are taking 1 step further by tying in the voltage.
Another thing to remember chips all overclock differently even chips that are made right next to each other. Also, if you start your ram at a stock 1.5 volts you can overvolt it by .15 volts as far as ram goes, that is the room for overclocking it. Since no official specs have been posted as far as we know the i7 chips voltages may be different than what we are used to. way to many variables for me.
Good luck.

Alexandra, you should get a Seagate 7200.11 drive. They are by FAR the best HDDs on the market right now.
Look at this monster:

By the way zamial: this yellow painted case is very nice in my opinion.

The NDA is nice and all, but ....

Somebody already borked it.

MSI X58 Platinum will be cheapest one on release at £180. Wait untill the end of March 2009 and it will be significantly cheaper.

Evil, did you go to IDF? I went as well, too bad we didn't recognize each other or were seperated from each other.

That's the thing about NDAs - one anonymous post on the internet, how the hell would "they" know who done it?
Oh and Alexandra? I hate to say it, but that case looks like a toaster.

It's nieuwei.nl silly.
And I can't find that case in any Dutch stores, just the other limited edition ones.
So I'm really really really sad now. >.>

Intel Core I7 is still under NDA, so I dont think that the CPU-Z and overclock results of the CPU are meant to be shared yet.
